DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Sep. 06, 2021: The Big 5 Start-up City event, taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre between September 12th through the 15th will be supported by the Draper-Aladdin Startup Competition (DASC).
The Draper-Aladdin Startup Competition is on a relentless search for the next startup hero. Founded by AladdinB2B and Draper Associates, DASC provides a platform for innovative startups to gain appropriate financial and media support.
The competition takes place at leading trade shows with a prominent startup community, selecting 10 finalists to pitch on stage. The winners receive up to $500,000 as an investment, along with a chance to appear on Tim Draper’s TV show, Meet the Drapers, in which they compete for an additional $500,000 while gaining access to publicize their business to a crowdfunding network of 12 million viewers.
Organized by dmg events, The Big 5 International Building & Construction Show unites the global construction community under one roof and provides leading-edge innovation, knowledge, and business opportunities for industry stakeholders.
The region’s largest in-person construction industry event will host 1100+ exhibitors, 50 exhibiting countries, and 20 country pavilions. This year’s event itinerary comprises 70 CPD-certified talks and three high-level summits.
One of the significant avenues of The Big 5 is its innovation platform Start-up City in which contech and proptech startups get the opportunity to announce themselves in front of industry professionals, peers, and investors.
This is an excellent chance for young entrepreneurs and startups to get a boost in the business world through the added advantage of the Big 5’s 40+ year traction.
This year, the stakes are higher. With Draper-Aladdin partnering with Start-up City, the stage is set for the winning pitch to take home an investment reaching up to $500,000.
Josine Heijmans, Vice President – Construction, dmg events, welcomed the initiative, saying:
“We are extremely proud to bring back The Big 5’s Start-up City once again this year, as an effective platform promoting innovative ideas and products that will help increase sustainability, efficiency, and productivity in the construction sector.
The adoption of innovative techniques and systems in the region’s construction sector is set to propel forward as recovery efforts begin following the COVID-19 pandemic, thus creating massive opportunities for the start-up ecosystem in the GCC and beyond.
Saying that, we are delighted to welcome Draper-Aladdin onboard as partners of The Big 5 Start-up City Pitch Competition this year. Together we look forward to offering market pioneers the investment needed to drive forward their creative approaches and entrepreneurial spirit, with the speed, agility, and fearlessness needed to develop and test new ideas in the sector.”
Alaa Ismail, Founder and CEO of AladdinB2B, shared his thoughts, saying:
“Aladdin is committed to investing its resources in identifying and attracting revolutionary startups and businesses across global sectors and industries through creative and innovative measures.
The Start-up City initiative is one such example in which Aladdin recognizes tremendous value and capability to assist its goals in propelling and fueling high-potential startups in the construction industry.
With the global economy flourishing, human population increasing at an ever rapid pace, and heightened demand for housing and property, the need to promote the construction industry is now more important than ever. Investment in startups in this sector is vital to foster innovation, prosperity, and growth.”
